Indianapolis weather is largely humid continental characterised by a lack of a pronounced wet or dry seasons, an attribute that stems from the even distribution of precipitation the city experiences throughout the year. However, because of the city’s geographical location in the Midwest, Indianapolis weather is also characterised by its four distinct seasons. Summers in the city tend to be hot and humid; temperatures usually hover around 90F, although occasionally they can soar to 100F during the day. With average temperatures of around 65F spring and autumn retain a pleasant disposition.  In contrast, Indianapolis weather during the long winter season can become brutally cold with temperatures hovering just above freezing point during the day, plummeting bellow it at night. During winter clouds are almost permanently perched on the sky.

Humidity is one of Indianapolis weather’s arch enemies, remaining high throughout the year. During summer its levels can soar well into the 80% bracket during the day, falling slightly around 60% in the afternoon; on the other hands, winter and spring humidity averages 80% in the mornings and 60% to 70% in the afternoons.

As mentioned earlier, Indianapolis experiences an evenly distributed precipitation throughout the year. During the autumn and winter seasons, 2 to 3 inches of rain fall in the city, while in the spring and summer months rainfall exceeds the U.S. average with 3 to 4 inches per month.

Between October and May, the weather in Indianapolis is frequently intercepted by snowfall that becomes particularly heavy during January. On average, Indianapolis experiences anything between 3 1/2 inches to 5 inches of snow per month.

In comparison to most US cities, Indianapolis experiences rather meagre amounts of sunshine. July is by far the sunniest month of the year, and between April and October the city experiences sunny days about 60% to 70% of the time.
